2023 AIA California Residential Design Award

De Mattei Construction is proud to share that our collaborative coastal residence with EYRC Architects has been formally recognized for design and construction excellence. The award highlights the project’s thoughtful integration of site, structure, and landscape—an approach that reflects both firms’ commitment to precision, performance, and architectural clarity. Set just inland from the Pacific, the home balances modern form with natural restraint, using light, materials, and spatial sequencing to create a sanctuary rooted in its coastal context.

Designed by EYRC Architects and executed by De Mattei Construction, the residence features a refined structural profile, expansive glazing, and an indoor-outdoor living experience shaped by breezes, horizon lines, and shifting light conditions. The award acknowledges the technical rigor of the build—from custom steel and wood detailing to environmentally responsive systems—and the quiet elegance achieved in the final composition. The architecture embraces calm, shadow, and coastal texture; the construction ensures durability, longevity, and elevated daily living.
